Breakthrough Prize 2016

At an official Ceremony in Silicon Valley on  November 8, 2015 the winners of a prestigious scientific award — Breakthrough Prize 2016 in Fundamental Physics were announced.

The participants of five experiments Daya Bay, KamLAND, Super-Kamiokande, SNO and T2K/K2K were awarded for discovery and research of neutrino osсillations.

JINR takes an active part in the experiment of Daya Bay which in 2012 discovered the nonzero value of a mixing angle of a neutrino θ13. The Laureates from JINR are: the participants of Daya Bay experiment: M.O. Gonchar, Yu.A. Gornushkin, D.V. Naumov, I.B. Nemchenok, A.G. Olshevski, and also E.A. Yakushev (KamLAND), V.A. Matveev and B.A. Popov (T2K).

 

Research Infrastructures in the frame of Forum “Open innovations” in Moscow

 In the frames of the “Open innovations” Forum  in Moscow, a Round Table "The research infrastructure of the BRICS countries" was held, attended by Minister of Education and Science of Russia D.V.Livanov. Participants of the Round Table were also Minister of Science and Technology of South Africa Naledi Pandor, Vice Minister of Science and Technology of China Сao Jianlin, Head of the International Affairs Office of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil, Ambassador Carlos Henrique Cardim, Director of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" M.V.Kovalchuk, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation A.A.Fursenko.

A school for teachers of physics from JINR Member States

The Scientific school for teachers of physics from JINR Member States organized by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) was held on 1-7 November 2015.

A Meeting of BRICS Senior Officials on Science, Technology and Innovation  in Moscow

The meeting’s participants  reviewed the results of the first meeting of representatives from organisations financing S&T programmes in the BRICS countries. In particular, they addressed the creation of working groups on research infrastructure and  financing of research, technology and innovation programmes.
  During the meeting, Russia  outlined priority areas of the development of cooperation in S&T&I among the BRICS countries.
   India  put forward a concept for a youth research forum, designed to serve as a platform for discourse between young researchers in science, engineering and applied disciplines. The initiative for the forum was provided for in the Brazil declaration of BRICS S&T&I ministers of 18 March 2015.
   Participants  also discussed and coordinated a draft Moscow declaration of the relevant ministers and a draft working plan on S&T&I for 2015-2018
