WINNERS OF THE 5-TH COMPETITION FOR RECEIVING MEGAGRANTS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED
On September 20, 2016 the names of 40 leading scientists identified as the winners of the 5th open grant competition of the Government of the Russian Federation designed to provide governmental support to scientific research projects implemented under the supervision of the world's leading scientists at Russian universities and research institutions were announced.
The competition was attended by 542 leading scientists from 45 countries together with nearly 300 scientific and educational organizations in Russia: 428 applications filed by universities, 114 by scientific organizations.
271 scientists out of the 542 competition participants are the citizens of the Russian Federation. The greatest representation among foreign scientists are US citizens - 49 applications; Italy - 23 applications; Germany - 19 applications; France - 18 applications; UK - 15 applications.
The project participants covered all 35 fields of science defined by the Grant Board of the Government of the Russian Federation.
The winners are leading scientists – the citizens of 16 countries of the world, including the USA, France, Canada, Great Britain, Israel and others. 15 scientists among the winners are Russian citizens.
Scientific research of 40 winners of the contest will be conducted on the basis of 35 Russian Universities and scientific institutions.
Regional distribution of Russian Universities and scientific institutions - winners of the competition: Moscow - 12 winners; Saint-Petersburg – 6; Novosibirsk region – 4; both Moscow and Samara regions - 3 winners; both Nizhny Novgorod, Tomsk regions, and the Republic of Tatarstan - 2 winners; Arkhangelsk, Voronezh, Rostov regions, city of Sevastopol (the first time), the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and Buryatia - 1 winner.
The grants of the Government of the Russian Federation allocated up to 90 million rubles each to conduct research for 3 years (2017-2019) with a possible extension for 2 years.
