NEW RESEARCH CENTER TO BE SET UP AT ST. PETERSBURG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY, NOVEMBER 29, 2016
A trilateral agreement on the establishment a new Center for Competences ‘Altair - CML - Polytech’ at the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) will be sealed on December 1 between the university, CompMechLab company group, and Altair Engineering company.
CompMechLab is a subsidiary of the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University which deals with computer engineering.
The Altair Engineering, Inc. (USA) develops systems for computer engineering and software platform for multidisciplinary analysis - Altair Hyper Works.
RUSSIA’S SUPER-HEAVY ROCKET PROJECT ESTIMATED AT $23 BILLION
The project for creating Russia’s super-heavy space rocket and launch pad for it will cost approximately 1.5 trillion rubles (roughly $23 billion at the current official rate of exchange).
The project for making a super-heavy space rocket was originally approved in the autumn of 2014.

RUSSIA AND GREECE SIGN AN AGREEMENT ON S&T COOPERATION 11 NOVEMBER 2016
Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation O. Yu. Vasilieva and First Deputy Minister of Education in the field of Scientific Research and Innovation of Greece K. Fotakis signed an intergovernmental agreement on S&T cooperation between the two countries.
The solemn ceremony was held on November 11, 2016 in Athens in the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs of Greece in the presence of Minister K. Gavroglu.
O. Yu. Vasilieva pointed out that signing the agreement meant further collaboration.
Deputy Minister for Scientific Research of Greece K. Fotakis pointed out that the country is interested in collaboration in energy, agriculture, health care, pharmaceuticals, culture and cultural heritage, its preservation through new technologies, as well as cooperation in the field of aircraft construction.

DEVELOPMENT OF NICA – FAIR COOPERATION
On 16 November 2016, in the Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research — GSI (Darmstadt, Germany) the Workshop “Perspectives for Joint Science and Academic Training at FAIR and NICA” was held.
The goal of the workshop is to present existing and potentially new collaboration topics of FAIR and NICA – both with regard to specific scientific and technological issues of mutual interest and also concerning joint efforts for promoting young researchers, in particular doctoral students and postdocs.
THE 15-TH ANNIVERSARY OF EU-RUSSIA AGREEMENT ON S&T COOPERATION
The 15-th anniversary of entering into force the Agreement on cooperation in Science and Technology between the European Community and the Russian Federation was celebrated in the Central House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow on the 10 November 2016.
The main organizers of this event were the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the Delegation of the European Union to Russia.
At the opening ceremony there were inspiring welcome speeches from the Russian and European officials: Andrei Fursenko, the Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation; Robert-Jan Smits, Director-General of the EC Directorate-General for Research and Innovation; Vladimir Chizhov, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union in Brussels, Vygaudas Ušackas, the head of European Union's Delegation in Russia; Vladislav Panchenko, the chairman of the board of RFBR, Aleksandr Khlunov, the Director General of the Russian Science Foundation, etc.
All speakers noted the high level and diversity of links in research, innovation and higher education between the EU, its Member States and the Russian Federation, last achievements and future collaboration opportunities for mutual benefit.
More than 300 representatives of scientific organizations and foundations, research institutes and centers, high schools and universities, as well as representatives of embassies of Malta, Spain, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Ireland, Latvia, Romania and Denmark attended the ceremony.
